Moving tip
Moving without stress: how to stay in control
A move quickly feels like a mountain of work. With a calm plan, clearly labelled boxes and a team that knows what it is doing, you keep the whole process organised. These are the steps that make the difference.

Start early, not on the day itself
Most moving stress does not arise on moving day, but in the weeks before. Anyone who only starts packing at the last minute inevitably ends up chasing the clock. A move runs far more smoothly if you make a rough plan four to six weeks in advance.
List the key dates: when you hand back your current home, when you receive the keys to the new one and the day you actually move. From those dates you work backwards. That way you know exactly when to start packing, cancelling services and arranging everything.
The most important things to arrange in advance
Work through these points calmly, well before moving day:
- Set the moving date and book a reliable moving company
- Notify the council, bank, insurer and subscriptions of your new address
- Arrange energy, water and internet at the new address
- Sort out any parking permit or city exemption for the moving van
- Reserve a furniture lift if the stairs or doorways are too narrow
Pack smart, label everything
Packing well saves you hours of searching at the new address. Pack room by room and write on each box which room it belongs to and roughly what is inside. A box labelled kitchen, plates, fragile is immediately clear at the new location, including for the moving team.
Keep a separate box with the things you need straight away on the first evening: phone chargers, toiletries, some crockery and bedding. Set that box aside so you do not have to open everything after a long day.
On moving day itself
Make sure the route is clear: parking space reserved, hallways empty and, if needed, the building lift booked. Appoint one point of contact so the moving team can coordinate with one person instead of the whole household.
At the end, walk through both homes together with the crew. That way you check whether anything has been left behind and whether everything is in the right place. Then you can start unpacking calmly, at your own pace.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about this topic
How many weeks in advance should I start preparing?
Four to six weeks is comfortable. That gives you enough time to pack calmly, notify everyone of your new address and book a moving company and any furniture lift without rushing.
What is the handiest way to label boxes?
Write the destination room and a short description of the contents on each box. Mark fragile boxes separately. Also keep a separate box of first-evening essentials you want close at hand.
Can I outsource the packing as well?
Yes. Our team packs your belongings skilfully with the right materials. You decide whether to outsource just the heavy lifting or the complete service including packing and unpacking.
